One of the principles of God’s kingdom that I have always preached is that He never asks you to relinquish something without replacing it with something of greater value. The things of greater value are spiritual treasures that enable you to walk in dimensions that create an atmosphere of possibilities. The definition of a dimension is space or the quality of spatial expansion. We must have faith to believe that God wants to expand our lives beyond the borders of human limitations.
Jesus walked in this dimension of faith and was not limited by a mind or thought process of impossibilities. Therefore feeding five thousand people with a few loaves of bread and a small number of fish was not impossible. This is only one example of many that Jesus demonstrated for us of what was to be our normal daily living. By walking in this dimension of faith, He influenced the spiritual climate of those around Him. Meaning His life caused them to change the way they thought about life! An entire belief system was being created in those who would believe in Him. He was producing a different culture for them to live in. It is this culture that creates behavior.
Culture is the governing ideas and images that shape a society’s understanding of reality. It shapes our thinking, guides our actions, and informs what we make. We make culture, but more importantly, culture makes us! It becomes second nature in our lives. Meaning we don’t even know what we are doing, we just do it!
Jesus lived in the Kingdom culture of His Father. It was second nature to Him and He lived to die so we could enter into this same relationship with our Heavenly Father and His Kingdom culture. Our responsibility is to demonstrate God’s Kingdom culture thus changing the atmosphere around us and ultimately changing the culture of the world around us. This is not accomplished in a moment of time, but through a sustained atmosphere of possibilities that influences the overlapping networks in our society that create culture. The Church use to be a part of that network, but no longer has this status because we have abdicated strategic networks in our society to worldly influence.
Our task today is to equip individuals who are called to work within these centers of cultural productions, within the institutions that serve as our public storytellers. This was and is the great commission that Jesus gave the disciples. “Go into all the world and preach the gospel!” The gospel is still good news that creates dimensions beyond our limitations. Now more than ever we must believe that we can make a difference, but we must be patient and persevere as we model the reality of God’s Kingdom culture. Now that is a great exchange!
