I am enjoying a book entitled “Behind the Screen” which is about Christians in Hollywood and all that God is doing behind the Screen. One of the chapters is entitled “Why do heathens make the best Christian films?” Interesting title. The truth of the matter is that we Christians want to tell everyone what to believe rather than allowing each person to discover it for them self!
There is no mystery to most Christian films. They do their best to make sure you know what they are talking about. You can be sure someone will ask Jesus into their heart and all will be well at the end of the movie. Unfortunately that just isn’t life. The greatest movies are those that lead you through a suspenseful plot all the while you are guessing who is the killer, or villain or thief. There is depth of character and emotional attachments developed to those characters. How many times have you become angry because your favorite character died or you cried because someone’s heart was broken? All of this makes the story real and enticing to watch and relive in our imaginations over and over again.
To be very honest with you, this is why religion is not enticing to the majority of people. It is not alive or enticing. People are told what to believe – end of story! They are seldom told of the ongoing saga of walking with God while discovering the mysteries or hidden things that are waiting to be found along the journey of life. Most people are missing the gospel that Jesus came to make available to us.
“Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Matt. 13:11,12
Verse twelve is not talking about money. Jesus is talking about knowledge of the hidden things. Why will he be given more? Because he is obviously searching and hungering for more. He will have an abundance of knowledge through experience with a living God! The person who doesn’t want to discover the hidden things that make God real will lose all interest, walk away and wonder what is the use!
If you were to write a movie about your relationship with God would it be enticing to others to watch? Is there any mystery to your relationship with God? Would anyone desire to be a part of that experience? Or would it be boring? You have the power to choose the script for your life. Walking in faith produces great action, suspense and life! You write it one day at a time!
By the way real life TV is not real life! It takes about eighty-five hours of filming to make one hour of reality TV!
