Tiger Woods was the role model of professional athletes,
not just golfers. His work ethic and professionalism
on and off the golf course were envied by most in the world of golf. His, what seemed to be perfect life, golf,
business and family drew the elite advertisers of the world. Everyone watched his every move with awe and
respect. Until now!
“Another One Bites the Dust” was a song of my teen years. I don’t use this phrase sarcastically, but as a matter of fact. His punishment will be no different than any other person who is deceived by thinking they won’t get caught! Like the serpent himself who was punished by having to crawl on his belly and eat dust, so it is with anyone who disobeys the laws of God and society. Even in the liberal world we now live in, his actions bring comments of disappointment and even disgust. What humiliation for him and his family.
Should we be surprised? No! When man is elevated to the status of a god it is only a matter of time before the fallen creature reveals the flaws that few if any want to acknowledge. To do so would only cause us to recognize our own flaws and that is not an option for most. Who is to blame? For sure we all must accept responsibility for our own actions, but we must also place some responsibility on a society that idolizes people who are gifted.
You see what we need are sincere role models, not perfect ones. The word sincere comes from two Latin words, sine and cere meaning without wax. The word originates from ancient days when pottery merchants sold pots with that marking to differentiate them from cheaper pots that had cracked and been repaired with wax and paint. Today with the technology that we possess we can wax and paint over any defects or imperfections that might exist giving the false impression that someone has it all together without fault!
There is only one who was perfect – Jesus. He died to cover our cracks, and enable us to walk upright before Him and our world. It is by humbly acknowledging our fallen nature that we are exalted by a righteous God and protected from the humiliation of eating dust! No one is exempt except the forgiven! Eating dirt is no fun, so get up and walk with God. You were never created to eat dust! Now that is your destiny not even a tiger possesses!
